As we head into Thanksgiving week here in Great Falls, I’m thinking about the same things many of you are: full tables, busy kitchens, and hoping the furnace keeps up when the temperature drops after dark. For me, it’s also a time to pause and feel grateful for the family who started this business, for the chance I have as the next generation to carry it forward, and for the neighbors across central Montana who trust us to keep their homes safe and comfortable.
When you call Halcro Heating and Cooling, you’re not calling a faceless corporation. You’re calling my family. This company started with my dad, a truck, a toolbox, and a promise to do the job right. I grew up watching him keep that promise in basements, crawlspaces, and windy driveways all over this area, and watching my mom help in the business while raising her kids and keeping house. Today, my wife and I run the company together as co owners, working alongside my dad and our team, taking what he built and adding what we’ve learned so we can keep serving our community for years to come.
Life As A Small Family HVAC Business
By late November, Great Falls is well into heating season. We’re changing filters, adjusting our own thermostat, and making sure our place’s ready for the cold just like everyone else. Our pipes can freeze if we aren’t paying attention, and our power bill reminds me how important an efficient system really is. When a cold snap hits and the phones start ringing, our trucks are racking up miles all over our 100 mile radius service area, from farmhouses near Fairfield to homes in Cascade. Every driveway I pull into is someone’s home, not just another “service address.”
One of my favorite parts of this work is getting to share it with my dad. He spent years crawling through crawlspaces, running gas lines in January, and coaxing old equipment back to life. I learned from that, then added my own experience in both HVAC and aviation, where I saw how important good troubleshooting, clear communication, and quality control really are. Now we’re back under the same roof, each bringing something important to the table.
Grateful For Your Support
When you choose our family company, you’re doing much more than scheduling a repair. You’re helping keep Montana families working right here at home. Your calls and referrals have allowed us to invest in training, better tools, and the people who answer the phone, track down parts, and make sure no one’s “no heat” call gets missed. I’m also grateful for my wife, who often answers a weekend text from a neighbor in trouble, and for the friends and relatives who understand when we show up late to dinner because a family in Sun Prairie is waiting on a repair.
Since I’m in the heating business, I can’t sign off without a couple of quick reminders as you get ready for the holiday:
- Change or check your furnace filter so your system can breathe and run efficiently.
- If you haven’t had your annual maintenance yet, consider scheduling it soon to catch small issues before they turn into a no heat call.
- Keep decorations and anything flammable away from space heaters and gas appliances, and make sure vents aren’t blocked.
As I look around the table this Thanksgiving, I’ll be thinking about my dad, my wife, our team, and every neighbor who’s trusted us to step into their home and get the heat back on. From my family and our Halcro Heating and Cooling team to yours, I wish you a warm, safe, and peaceful Thanksgiving.
