If you look up Halcro Heating and Cooling online, you might notice something that doesn’t quite match our history. We’ve been serving Great Falls and the surrounding area for more than 20 years, but our online presence is much younger. For most of our history, our reputation was built the old-fashioned way: doing good work, answering the phone, helping customers when something went wrong, and earning referrals from one homeowner to another.
That still matters to us, but the way people find and evaluate local businesses has changed, and online reviews have become an important part of that process.
Why Online Reviews Matter to a Small Business
When your furnace quits on a cold Montana evening or your air conditioner stops working during a hot stretch in July, you probably don’t want to choose a contractor blindly. You may ask a friend or neighbor who they use, but there’s also a good chance you’ll search online and see what other customers have to say before choosing who to call.
That’s where reviews have become the online version of word of mouth.
According to BrightLocal’s 2026 Local Consumer Review Survey, 97% of consumers read online reviews of local businesses. The same survey found that people pay attention not only to ratings, but also to the number and recency of reviews. Google similarly explains that reviews can help a business stand out and provide useful information to potential customers.
For a small local company, that means reviews can help answer an important question before we ever speak with a new customer: What is it actually like to work with this company?
A 20-Year-Old Business With a Much Younger Online History
This creates an unusual challenge for established businesses that came online relatively recently.
Halcro Heating and Cooling was incorporated in 2003. We were installing and repairing heating and cooling equipment all over central Montana long before we were putting information on our website, updating a Google Business Profile, or sharing projects online.
Those years of work didn’t automatically become part of our online history when we started building a stronger digital presence. Google doesn’t know about the furnace installed 15 years ago. Facebook doesn’t know about the service call where a technician got someone’s heat working again or the boiler repair that prevented an unnecessary replacement. Nextdoor didn’t hear the customer who recommended us to a neighbor.
In other words, our online reputation is still catching up with our real-world history.
Reviews Help Tell the Part of the Story We Can’t
We can explain our services on our website. We can tell you that we work on furnaces, boilers, air conditioners, heat pumps, ductless systems, gas piping, and other HVAC equipment. We can explain our policies and show examples of completed projects.
What we can’t do is tell you what another customer’s experience felt like. That’s meaningful information that has to come directly from our customers.
A useful review doesn’t have to be long or polished. Something as simple as what service you needed, how the appointment went, and whether you’d call us again can give another homeowner useful context. Honest feedback also helps us understand what we’re doing well and where we could do better.

We Want Honest Reviews, Not Perfect Ones
When we ask customers for reviews, we’re not asking for a particular rating or for anyone to say something they don’t believe. We want reviews to represent genuine customer experiences.
That distinction matters. The Federal Trade Commission emphasizes that businesses shouldn’t selectively seek only positive feedback, and Google prohibits offering incentives in exchange for reviews on its platform. Honest reviews, including constructive criticism, are more useful to both customers and businesses than a collection of comments that feels manufactured.
If something went particularly well, we appreciate hearing about it. If there was something we could’ve handled better, that information is valuable too.
If We’ve Worked in Your Home, We’d Appreciate Your Help
If Halcro Heating and Cooling has worked for you, whether recently or years ago, we’d appreciate you taking a few minutes to share your experience online.
For a small local business, a review does more than add another star to a profile. It gives the next homeowner trying to choose an HVAC contractor a little more information about who they’re inviting into their home. It also helps our online presence better reflect the more than two decades of work and relationships behind our company.
To everyone who’s already left us a review, recommended us to a neighbor, called us back for another project, or trusted us with your home over the years, thank you. Those relationships are what built Halcro Heating and Cooling long before online reviews became part of doing business.
